Home remodeling FAQs for Mercer Island

Do Mercer Island waterfront or shoreline projects need special review?

They can. Work near the Lake Washington shoreline may involve additional City of Mercer Island and shoreline requirements, which we confirm before design.

Can you modernize a mid-century Island home?

Yes. Many Island homes are mid-century, so we assess the existing structure and systems and plan updates that respect mature lots and tree canopy.

How do mature trees affect a Mercer Island remodel or addition?

Tree retention and root protection can shape where and how we build, so we plan around significant trees and confirm any city requirements early.

Can an addition keep the home's connection to the yard and light?

Yes. We plan massing, windows, and transitions so an addition preserves daylight and the indoor-outdoor feel of the property.

What permits apply to a Mercer Island kitchen or bath remodel?

Most remodels that move plumbing, electrical, or walls require City of Mercer Island permits and inspections, which we confirm for your scope before construction.
